In baseball news, Derek Jeter was back, and the Yankees felt a lot better.
The Yankees captain singled on his first pitch of the season, scored a run and went 1 for 4 with an RBI groundout in his return from a nine-month layoff to help New York beat Kansas City 8-4 Thursday. He left for a pinch-hitter in the eighth inning.
Daniel Nava hit a two-out single in the top of the 10th inning to score pinch-runner Jackie Bradley Jr., and the Boston Red Sox rallied from a four-run deficit for the second time in a four-game series to beat the Mariners 8-7 in 10 innings.
In the NHL, Daniel Paille scored in the second period and the Bruins blanked the Hawks 2-0. The game was scoreless until Paille tallied 2:13 into the middle period, two nights after providing the overtime goal in Boston's 2-1 victory at Chicago. Patrice Bergeron doubled the Bruins' lead with 5:55 left in the period.
