Following a pair of ethics scandals that have gripped Albany, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is pushing his plans for ending government corruption. Part of Cuomo’s reform package includes ending the practice of cross-endorsing candidates, but Albany County District Attorney David Soares says passing laws without funding to fight corruption won’t work.
ALBANY – The just-adopted state budget includes funds to help redevelop the Beacon Correctional Facility, the women’s prison the governor targeted for closure.
A total of $6 million has been placed in the spending plan to aid in redevelopment of the property, said Assemblyman Frank Skartados (D, Milton), who represents Beacon.
“In the days and weeks ahead I am looking forward to be working with the Beacon officials as well as the Empire State Development Corporation to ensure that these funds are used to develop the facility to its fullest potential,” Skartados said.
LAGRANGEVILLE – Standing outside one of the hops drying houses at Eastern View Farms & Dutchess Hops in Lagrangeville on Monday, US Senator Charles Schumer pledged to work with the US Small Business Administration and Department of Agriculture to get funding for local farmers to grow hops and buy equipment.
