Five Candidates Run In Massachusetts Senate Race

Gabriel Gomez launched his campaign for US Senate in Massachusetts at an American Legion Hall in West Springfield. He is one of three Republicans and two Democrats in the race.

For a time it appeared Republicans would struggle to field a candidate for the special election for U.S. Senate in Massachusetts.  But when the deadline passed earlier this week for candidates to submit 10,000 signatures it turned out that three people will compete for the party’s nomination.

Gabriel Gomez Enters Republican Senate Race

Gabriel Gomez,one of the three Republicans running in the special U.S. Senate election in Massachusetts, formally launched his campaign on Thursday with events across the state.

Speaking at an American Legion Hall in West Springfield, Gomez introduced himself as a fresh faced political outsider with an appealing life story. He’s the son of Columbian immigrants, a former Navy SEAL and a successful businessman.  He said reducing government spending, and creating  jobs are top priorities

Three Republicans In Senate Race In Massachusetts

The campaigns of three Republican senate hopefuls in Massachusetts say they’ve collected enough signatures to qualify for the April primary ballot.

The un-expected three-way Republican primary will include Gabriel Gomez, a private equity investor and former Navy SEAL. Former U.S Attorney for Massachusetts, Michael Sullivan, and State Reprsentative Dan Winslow.  Western New England University political science professor Tim Vercellotti says the candidates have very different backgrounds.

Mass. GOP U.S. Senate Candidates Working Against the Clock to Secure a Ballot Spot

Massachusetts State Rep. and candidate for U.S. Senate Daniel Winslow.

Following last weekend’s massive snowstorm that buried most of eastern Massachusetts from Boston to Worcester in as much as three feet of snow, there was a blizzard of activity this week by Republican hopefuls in the race to replace former Massachusetts U.S. Senator John Kerry.

WAMC’s Patrick Donges checked in with the Boston Globe’s Massachusetts State House bureau chief Frank Phillips for an update on the climatic challenges, both political and meteorological, that Republicans must overcome for a shot at the seat.
