New York Congressman Chris Gibson, a Republican from the 19th district who is retiring after this term, his third, announced Monday afternoon he will not run for governor in 2018. Frequently critical of corruption in state government and Gov. Andrew Cuomo in particular, Gibson had expressed interest in the office over the past several months, setting up an exploratory committee. But Gibson says in a statement he will return to academia instead:
