Obama warns GOP against blocking gun bill

President Barack Obama is warning Republican lawmakers against using delay tactics to sink gun control legislation.

Obama spoke last night about his gun proposals in Connecticut, where 20 children and 6 adults were killed in a horrific school shooting last year. The shooting spurred fresh debate in Washington over gun control measures.

The president is singling out GOP lawmakers who want to use procedural maneuvers to block legislation. Obama says the move would be akin to saying the public's opinion doesn't matter.

Chairman of the Connecticut Republican Party Jerry Labriola says he's making the argument to national Republican officials that Connecticut can be a possible win for presidential candidate Mitt Romney. WAMC’s Lucas Willard has more…

Labriola told The Associated Press Monday that he's pointing out how President Barack Obama's popularity in the Democratic-leaning state has waned and Republican U.S. Senate candidate Linda McMahon is running a strong campaign.

He said "Connecticut is more and more becoming in play" and national Republicans are listening to him.

Mass. delegation heads to GOP convention

The Massachusetts delegation to next week's Republican National Convention could enjoy an enhanced role at the gathering as it represents the home state of the presumptive GOP presidential nominee. WAMC’s Lucas Willard reports…

There are 41 voting delegates and 38 alternates in the Bay State delegation. All are committed to former Gov. Mitt Romney.

State GOP spokesman Tim Buckley says the delegation will be given a prominent place on the convention floor and will stay in the same hotel as Romney across from the Tampa Bay Times Forum.

The three Republicans running in a primary to take on Democrat Senator Kirsten Gillibrand are meeting voters around New York, rounding up endorsements and lobbing critiques at the incumbent.

But with primary day looming June 26, are people paying attention?

Polls show most voters still don't know much about lawyer Wendy Long, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos or U.S. Representative Bob Turner. Low turnout is expected on primary day for an election among candidates still trying to build name recognition.
