On Tuesday, Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin signed an executive order to give preference in awarding state contracts to businesses in the state that adopt climate friendly business practices. Following the formal signing of the document in South Burlington, WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley discussed several issues with the governor — including his concerns over the passage of legislation by Congress last week and expectations that President Obama will sign a bill that will override Vermont’s first-in-the-nation GMO labeling law.

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin has called the opioid addiction crisis a priority since he made it the sole focus of his state of the state address in 2014.  Shumlin was at the University of Vermont Medical Center’s Day One treatment center today to announce more steps the state is taking to address the addiction crisis.

Vermont's governor has allowed a ban on the use of tanning beds by young people to become law without his signature.  WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports… 

Governor Peter Shumlin said Wednesday that he did not approve of the legislation because of concerns about how it would be enforced.

Owners of establishments with tanning beds caught allowing people younger than 18 to use them would face fines.

VT Governor Wants to Keep Vaccination Opt-Out
