Today we are talking with Pleun Bouricius, director of Grants and Programs at Mass Humanities, about the art of and need for public discussion and conversation of topics we do not agree on, like immigration or the role of religion in public life, and Mass Humanities’ new Common Good Reads discussion grant program, funded by the Pulitzer Foundation.

Newburgh Receives Money To Hire Firefighters

A Hudson Valley city will receive more than $2 million to hire firefighters.

Vermont is getting a $5 million federal grant for a new automated system that will allow it to better gather and report on information from every school in the state.  WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports…

Officials say with the new system the state will be able determine, for example, how many students have taken geometry by ninth grade or attended full-day kindergarten.
