New Hotel Construction Seen As Sign Of Business Rebound

Years before a casino might open in downtown Springfield Massachusetts construction on new hotels is beginning.   The people who sell the city as a tourist destination say it is a positive development.

 A new 100 -room hotel is expected to open in downtown Springfield by the end of this year, and a groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled next week for a new six- story hotel that will also have nearly 100 guest rooms when it opens in about a year.

Western Mass. Tourist Sites Promoted In Pennsylvania

Tourism professionals from western Massachusetts are a three-day bus trip to Pennsylvania to promote the region to group tour operators

A first ever collaborative effort is under way to jointly promote tourist attractions in the Berkshires and the greater  Springfield area in Massachusetts.

   A bus carrying two dozen people representing many of the top tourist attractions in western Massachusetts departed from the Big E fairgrounds in West Springfield Tuesday morning bound for Pennsylvania.  The group has meetings scheduled over the next three days with 17 tour operators to sell the region as an ideal destination for group bus trips.

More Sports Tourism Business Sought In Western Massachusetts

The Boston Marathon ,being run today in eastern Massachusetts, is an annual event that attracts thousands of participants and hundreds of thousands of spectators who spend money in hotels, restaurants and stores.  The hospitality industry in western Massachusetts is taking steps to boost sports tourism in the other half of the commonwealth.
