Vermont Town Board Votes to Reverse Gun Ban

A Vermont town that had banned firearms in town-owned buildings has changed its mind.

The Brattleboro Reformer reports the Townshend selectboard had approved the ban on July 16. It applied to all town buildings including the office, highway garage, library and fire station. Only "authorized law-enforcement officers" were excluded.

The board rescinded the ban Monday after hearing opposition from gun-rights advocates and after being advised by the town attorney that the ban could not stand.

New Hampshire Community Concerned About Vermont Gun Range

A New Hampshire town is holding a public meeting next week on Vermont's plans to renovate a shooting range in Hartland following complaints about noise.

The Vermont Department of Fish and Wildlife will present its plan to the town of Plainfield, N.H., on Monday, July 30.

The Valley News reports that some residents across the Connecticut River in Plainfield have complained about frequent noise throughout the day and night at the unregulated gun range.

Public Safety Initiatives Target Illegal Guns

A series of proposals aimed at cracking down on crime are pending before the city council in western Massachusetts' largest city. Several of the public safety initiatives proposed in Springfield are intended to reduce illegal guns, and are being considered in the aftermath of recent horrific gun violence.
