Home Run Derby


Reds third baseman Todd Frazier won the Home Run Derby in his home ballpark, defeating Dodgers rookie outfielder Joc Pederson 15-14 in the final. Frazier led the eight competitors with 14 home runs in the first round and finished with 39 overall in defeating Rangers first baseman Prince Fielder, Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson and Pederson. Pederson smacked 13 homers in the first round and 12 in the semifinals before finishing with 39.

Cespedes Wins Home Run Derby

In baseball news, Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics won the Home Run Derby. He edged Washington's 20-year-old Bryce Harper 9-8 in the final round of the eight-player competition.

In tonight’s All-Star game, the Mets' Matt Harvey will be the starting pitcher for the National League and Detroit's Max Scherzer for the American League. Harvey becomes the first pitcher from the host team to start an All-Star game since Houston's Roger Clemens in 2004 and just the 11th overall.
