Government Officials Work Toward a Settlement for a Restoration Plan

The Hudson River PCB-cleanup project is about halfway through, and both governmental officials as well as environmental advocates provided an update on the Superfund project Wednesday. What has not yet begun is a project to restore the Hudson River’s natural resources, including fish and wildlife, but planning for the restoration is underway.

Environmental Group Reports on Sewage Contamination in the Hudson River

There’s a report out by an environmental advocacy group in the Hudson Valley detailing where sewage contamination is in the Hudson River, from New York City to Troy. The report is in response to the increased recreational use of the Hudson, with more people swimming and boating.

NYS Department of Environmental Conservation Estuary Program

On one day, Thursday Oct 4th, 3-thousand students, educators, and volunteers will visit 75 sites along the Hudson from New York Harbor to the mouth of the Mohawk. It is being called “A Day In the Life of Hudson River.” This is the 10th annual event, and in those ten years the DEC has had over 20,000 participants total.

New national designation for Hudson hotspot

Acting Executive Director of the Hudson River Valley Greenway and National Heritage Area Mark Castiglione said the 256 mile Water Trail has been officially recognized by the US Department of the Interior as a National Water Trail and is one of the first in the country to receive such an honor.

New Hudson River Monitoring Station in Poughkeepsie Unveiled

A new high-tech environmental monitoring station based at Marist College in Poughkeepsie was unveiled Tuesday on the banks of the Hudson River. Hudson Valley Bureau Chief Dave Lucas reports.

The new station is part of a network of 15 sensors collectively known as the Hudson River Environmental Conditions Observing System, providing round-the-clock data on a range of variables— such as temperature, salinity, and pH --- Stuart Findlay, an aquatic ecologist at the Cary Institute, says the new station is unique because it can collect actual water samples.

EPA Will Take Another Month for Hudson PCB Review

Federal officials reviewing the massive cleanup of PCBs from the upper Hudson River will take another month before finishing their report. WAMC’s Dave Lucas reports…

The federal Environmental Protection Agency was originally scheduled to finish the review by the end of this month. But the agency decided to extend the study through the end of May after calls for a more lengthy review from local congressional representatives and environmentalists.

Two years of Hudson dredging have been completed and crews will be back on the river soon for a third season
