Bonacic Touts Job Creation In Casino Gaming Proposal

KINGSTON – Proposal Number One on this year’s ballot pertains to a constitutional amendment that would allow casino gambling in New York State.

State Senator John Bonacic, (R, Mount Hope) as chairman of the Standing Committee on Racing, Gaming and Wagering is more intimate with the issues than most other officials.  Bonacic outlined the proposed amendment and detailed the ramifications at the Ulster County Chamber of Commerce breakfast in Kingston Thursday morning.

Rockland Budget Includes Property Tax Increase Under 10 Percent

NEW CITY – Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef submitted a $760.9 million proposed budget for 2014 that includes a 9.9 percent property tax increase. That translates to about $101 more per year for the average homeowner.

The spending plan unveiled Wednesday maintains all county’s existing services and does not cut any programs or impose layoffs. He has recommended a net decrease of roughly 40 vacant positions.

HV Assemblymembers Want Common Core-Linked Tests Redeveloped

Three New York state assemblymembers from the lower Hudson Valley are calling for the new Common Core-linked tests to be scrapped. They say the tests are unfair assessments and costly to school districts. The State Education Department disagrees.

NYS DOS Comment Period On Coastal Zone Policies For Indian Point Soon Ends
