A county executive in the Hudson Valley is launching an initiative as a response to December’s Newtown, Connecticut mass school shooting. It’s called “Safer Communities”, and it kicks off next week with a symposium on school safety.

Elected Officials Hear Concerns from Low-Income Residents

A grassroots group in the Hudson Valley organized a Town Hall Meeting in Poughkeepsie Tuesday evening, to give low-income residents the chance to hear from three elected officials who represent them. The elected officials vowed a lot of support and help, and many in attendance say they are hopeful.

Orange County Arts Council adds film component

MIDDLETOWN – The Orange County Arts Council, the umbrella organization representing the arts in the county, has now created a film bureau.

The agency will actively promote the county and what it has to offer moviemakers, said its executive director, Dawn Ansbro.

“We are close enough to New York City that travel is not an issue”, Ansbro said.  “We have everything from historic architecture, riverfront property, farmland, street; I think we’ve got a lot to attract filmmakers here in addition to local film professionals that live here.”

Congressman Maloney Heads to Orange for a Farm Forum

A congressman from New York’s Hudson Valley will hold an Agriculture Town Hall gathering Wednesday in Orange County.  The forum comes as Congress begins to consider a long-term farm bill.

Democratic Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney will hold the forum in Warwick. He says he wants to hear the concerns and priorities of local farmers and producers.
