Herbek Quits As Newburgh City Manager

NEWBURGH – Amid controversy that he was involved with a prostitute, Newburgh City Manager Richard Herbek resigned abruptly on Thursday.

Hours later, the city council named Police Chief Michael Ferrera as acting city manager.

“I’m the police chief and the police chief is my heart, but of course, I am here, I have covered as city manager quite a few times in the past and of course I will be here until I find a city manager, and hopefully it will be soon,” Ferrera said.

Mayor Judy Kennedy suggested an investigation into the Herbek situation may continue.

Orange County, NY GOP Locks Out Electronic Media

GOSHEN – There was an unusual twist to the Orange County Republican Committee’s nominating convention held at a Goshen restaurant Wednesday night. Signs posted on the doors announced a prohibition to audio or video recording and still picture taking during the convention and, in fact, a reporter for MidHudsonNews.com was refused entry because he had digital recording equipment.

Westchester Police To Keep Eye On Parks

WHITE PLAINS – In light of acts of violence in public places in recent months, the Westchester County Department of Public Safety will be keeping a close watch on the county’s parks this summer.

Public Safety Commissioner George Longworth told county lawmakers the department will keep a close watch on those recreational facilities.

“We study each incident that occurs including the Boston Marathon event and we analyze intelligence information as it comes in and we make adjustments accordingly,” he said.
