New York prosecutor knows rape suspect, passes off case

CARMEL, N.Y. (AP) — A suburban district attorney has asked a neighboring county to handle a child rape case because he is acquainted with the suspect.

Putnam County prosecutor Adam Levy said Thursday in an emailed statement that he knows 35-year-old Alexandru Hossu of Southeast. His spokeswoman would not elaborate, but The Journal News reported that Hossu is the district attorney's personal trainer.

2013 County Health Rankings Are Released

An annual report on health rankings for counties across the country has just been released. Four Hudson Valley counties are in the top 10 in New York.

It’s the fourth annual report on health rankings, and gives a snapshot of the overall health of counties. Abbey Cofsky is senior program officer for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, which developed the report with the University of Wisconsin’s Population Health Institute.

And it is some of these factors that propelled Rockland County toward the top of the list in New York.

Port Authority takeover of Atlantic City Airport firms up

ATLANTIC CITY – A study into the feasibility of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey taking over Atlantic City International Airport says there are opportunities for growth at the airport, Port Authority officials said Wednesday.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie also announced his approval of a takeover of the facility by the bi-state agency.

Hudson Valley Congressman's Bill Reforms Crop Insurance

New York Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, a Democrat, has introduced his first bill since taking office in January. It has to do with better protecting fruit and vegetable farmers when it comes to crop insurance.

Maloney says The CROP Act, or The Creating Reliability for Our Producers Act, aims to reform crop insurance to help so-called specialty crop farmers, namely, fruit and vegetable growers.
