Red Sox Trump Giants 12-1

In baseball, the Red Sox beat San Francisco 12-1 yesterday. Stephen Drew and Will Middlebrooks each hit a home run. Jonny Gomes and Jarrod Saltalamacchia drove in two runs apiece. The Red Sox have won three of five and entered play in a virtual first-place tie with Tampa Bay in the AL East. The Red Sox will have a day off today before playing the Dodgers in Los Angeles tomorrow.

Cashman: Alex Should Just... Shut Up

Third baseman Alex Rodriguez is in hot water with Yankees general manager Brian Cashman after he tweeted that his hip surgeon cleared him to play in rehabilitation games. Cashman told ESPN.com that when the Yankees want to announce something, they will and added that "Alex should just shut...up."

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points and the New York Knicks beat the Boston Celtics with an 87-71 victory on Tuesday night. Paul Pierce scored 18 points for the Celtics, who will host their third game on Friday. This will be Boston’s first home game since the Boston Marathon bombings. Elsewhere, Golden State rallied to beat Denver 131-117 and Miami defeated Milwaukee 98-86.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, LeBron James had 29 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and the Miami Heat tied a franchise record with their 14th straight victory, rallying to beat the Knicks 99-93 on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant scored 11 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and hit the go-ahead layup with nine seconds left to give the Lakers a 99-98 win over Atlanta.

Elsewhere, Oklahoma City beat the Clippers 108-104.

Sacramento defeated Charlotte 119-83 and Indiana beat Chicago 97-92.
