Concerns Raised Over Pending Stafford Loan Rate Increase

Last year students at colleges across the region, and across the country, became concerned that interest rates on Stafford loans were set to double. Congress blocked the increase - but it was not a permanent measure. Vermont Congressman Peter Welch is renewing his efforts to stop the rate hike.

CT Officials Seek to Stop Student Loan Increase

Several members of Connecticut's congressional delegation are calling for a stop to a planned interest rate increase on student loans.  WAMC’s Tristan O’Neill reports…

U.S. Representatives Joe Courtney and Rosa DeLauro will be joined by U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal for a news conference Monday at the Legislative Office Building. They're trying to draw attention to how the interest rate on subsidized Stafford student loans is set to jump from 3.4 percent to 6.8 percent on July 1.
