Coming off a record-breaking season with more than $2 million in ticket sales, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival will offer a range of performances and events in 2015. And for public radio listeners things will sound off with a familiar voice in a unique setting.
Jacob’s Pillow in Beckett, MA is celebrating its 82nd Festival this Summer. It is a National Historic Landmark, recipient of the National Medal of Arts, and home to America's longest running international dance festival.
We are joined this morning by the Pillow’s Executive and Artistic Director Ella Baff and by choreographer John Heginbotham. His evening-length world premiere Chalk and Soot will be presented in the Doris Duke Theatre through August 3. John is also the recipient of the 2014 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award.
Chet Walker has been the Director of Jacob's Pillow's Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance program for the past 14 seasons. The choreographer has worked on Broadway for 40 years - starting at the age of sixteen when he appeared in the first revival of On the Town. He was in the original Broadway production of Pippin and this year returns to that show as choreographer for the multi-nominated Diane Paulus directed revival - the show's first since its original run closed in 1977 (after 1,944 performances).
