In November voters elected Democrat D. Billy Jones to replace retiring New York state Republican Assemblywoman Janet Duprey to represent the 115th district.  Jones, the current chair of the Franklin County Legislature, tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley that the transition is going well and he’s looking forward to tackling challenges in Albany that concern the North Country.

A Democrat has been elected to New York’s 115th state Assembly district seat, which was held for more than 30 years by Republicans.

In May, New York state Assemblywoman Janet Duprey announced that she would retire from the 115th district seat.  The two individuals seeking to replace her in the multi-county district are from Franklin County.

The Democratic candidate for Assembly in New York’s northernmost district was in Plattsburgh this morning to give supporters an enthusiastic update on his campaign. WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports the race for the open seat is heating up.

The 115th New York state Assembly district has been represented by Republican Janet Duprey for a decade.  On May 12th  she startled her constituents when she announced that she would not seek reelection due to glaucoma.   Kevin Mulverhill, the Franklin County Sheriff, launched his campaign for the seat Wednesday in Plattsburgh.

New York state Assemblywoman Janet Duprey announced her retirement last week after a 41-year political career. The Republican from the 115th district served 10 years as a Clinton County legislator and 21 years as the county treasurer before being elected to the Assembly in 2006.  She explains how she first entered politics four decades ago.

Last Thursday, North Country state Assemblywoman Janet Duprey announced that she would retire after representing her district for 10 years. On Monday, a fellow Republican from Franklin County stepped up to run for the seat.

Last week New York 115th District Assemblywoman Janet Duprey announced she would retire at the end of her term.  The Franklin County sheriff announced Monday that he will run for the seat.

The North Country’s long-serving assemblywoman announced this morning that she will not seek reelection.

The Republican incumbent in New York’s northern-most state Assembly district has a Democratic challenger for her seat.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce held its annual breakfast forum on Friday.  During the proceedings, officials unveiled the results of their annual issues survey of members.  The results show that 93 percent believe if implemented, a $15 minimum wage would eliminate jobs and harm the state’s economy. The survey came out the same week Governor Andrew Cuomo has been barnstorming the state promoting the $15 minimum wage, one of his key agenda priorities during this legislative session.  Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, a Republican, says the wage proposal is an overriding issue for businesses across the 115th district.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce held its annual legislative breakfast this morning.  The overriding issue capturing businesses’ attention is the governor’s proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Albany has been the subject of many headlines in recent weeks, with its past leaders in the midst of high-profile corruption trials. But the New York state Legislature is on recess until January, so members are working in their districts.  115th  Assembly district Republican Janet Duprey attended a recent forum on the heroin and drug addiction crisis in the North Country.  A member of the Assembly Minority Task Force on Heroin Addiction & Community Response, she told WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley that some progress is being made drafting legislation to deal with the statewide addiction crisis.

The state Assembly representative for the region that includes the Clinton Correctional Facility is slamming the plea deal that the Clinton County District Attorney reached with Joyce Mitchell, who pleaded guilty this week to helping inmates Richard Matt and David Sweat escape from the maximum security prison last month. Republican Janet Duprey of the 115th district tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley justice was not served.
