Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is making the rounds of upstate New York college campuses to promote legislation to help veterans get education and training needed for civilian jobs.

Her schedule Monday includes stops at Syracuse University, Nazareth College in Rochester, and D'Youville College in Buffalo.

TD Bank Expected to Cut 200 Western MA Jobs

About 200 people are expected to lose their jobs when TD Bank closes a customer call center in Springfield at the end of the year.

The workers learned at a meeting Tuesday night that the 24/7 customer support center will close in December as part of a decision to consolidate call centers to locations in Maine, New Jersey and South Carolina.

The branch at the location will remain open.

Bank spokesman Jimmy Hernandez tells WWLP-TV it was a difficult decision and did not reflect job performance.

Obama was speaking at a college science complex in New York to draw attention to proposals he has been pushing before Congress since last September. His appeal comes as millions of Americans remain out of work and as thousands have given up looking for work.

New Report Points to Stronger Job Growth in MA

A new economic report is painting a much brighter picture of job growth in Massachusetts.  WAMC’s Paul Tuthill reports…

MassBenchmarks released an analysis on Wednesday showing that the state appeared to have added 38,900 jobs during the first nine months of 2011. That compares with a revised estimate issued last month by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics that showed Massachusetts only gained 2,300 jobs during the same period - a figure that had been questioned by Governor Deval Patrick and other state officials.

VT Governor Promises to Bring Jobs to Bennington

Vermont Governor Peter Shumlin is promising to work with municipal officials and business owners to bring new jobs to the Bennington area.  WAMC's North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley reports…

Shumlin spoke Monday at a luncheon sponsored by the Bennington County Regional Commission.

He says long-term improvements in infrastructure, education and a renewed focus on agriculture will increase the number of jobs and lead to wage increases for employees who have suffered from stagnant earnings.
