The ousted head of SUNY Polytechnic Institute, Alain Kaloyeros, a former top aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo and six business leaders pleaded not guilty to extortion, bribery and bid-rigging charges in federal court today. Barry Bohrer, the lawyer for former Cuomo aide Joseph Percoco, briefly spoke to reporters in New York City in audio captured by Newschannel 13.

“It’s four to six weeks for us to review the evidence and that’s what we’ll be doing,” said Bohrer. “We’ll have more comments the next time we’re in court.”

 

A former top adviser for Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo and seven other people have been indicted in their federal corruption case.

Indictments have been released in a corruption case brought by U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara of New York's Southern District involving a former top aide to Governor Andrew Cuomo and numerous upstate New York developers. The grand jury considered more than a dozen counts including fraud, bribery, extortion and false statements. No arraignment date for Joseph Percoco has been set. The case has shaken the governor's office and forced SUNY Polytechnic President Alain Kaloyeros to step down.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo told reporters that he wasn’t aware of the connections between many of the nine people charged in a federal corruption case last month, saying he didn’t know the details of their business relationships.

  With his former top aide facing a federal probe for potential conflicts of interest for consulting work, Gov. Andrew Cuomo has said twice now that he did not know what the former close associate of the Cuomo family was up to. Percoco left state service earlier this year for a job at Madison Square Garden.

Opponents of a planned fracked gas power plant in the Hudson Valley say they are hoping the US Attorney will investigate decisions made in the permitting process for the plan, now that it’s been revealed that the wife of a former top aide to Cuomo took payments from the lead engineering firm in the project, and that her husband is the subject of a federal probe.
