Voters in the city of Albany have made their choices in the pivotal primary election.

Once again, the three Democratic candidates for Albany mayor will get together for a pre-primary debate tonight. This time they will be joined by Green Party candidates.

Democrats have an overwhelming enrollment advantage in the city of Albany, meaning the September 12th mayoral primary is the biggest hurdle for the candidates. But that isn’t scaring off several third-party hopefuls. WAMC’s Capital Region Bureau Chief Dave Lucas spoke with Conservative candidate Joe Sullivan about the race, campaigning and the voting process.

Tuesday represents another mile-marker for citywide races in Albany: June 6th, when candidates begin building their petitions.  Among those gathering signatures - the incumbent mayor and her latest challenger.

The perception of Albany as a sheltering place for the undocumented began around 2009 and has continued through the present day.  There has been ongoing debate over whether or not Albany is a “Sanctuary City.”
