Singer songwriter Josh Ritter performs along with The Royal City Band tonight at The Egg in Albany in support of his new album Sermon on the Rocks.

Two years after Beast in its Tracks, an emotional breakup album, the singer-songwriter is back with his eighth full-length album. Sermon on the Rocks 12 songs were recorded over two weeks at New Orleans’ The Parlor Recording Studio.

As its title suggests, the album is Ritter's foray into what he calls "messianic oracular honky-tonk." We were thrilled to have Josh Ritter join us at The Linda.

Singer-songwriter, touring musician, and novelist Josh Ritter joins us this morning at The Linda.

Josh tours nationally and internationally often with The Royal City Band, sometimes in a trio, and some other times - solo.

Tomorrow night at MASS MoCA in North Adam, MA, Josh will play solo acoustic, trying out new material -- warming it up and feeling it out for an as-yet unnamed forthcoming album.

Josh Ritter’s most recent album, The Beast in Its Tracks, was released in early March. In the songs on the album, the listener absorbs some heartbreak - thankfully followed by some happiness and hope.

Josh Ritter will be at the Troy Savings Bank Music Hall on Thursday, September 26th. Sam Amidon will open the show.

"Lights" - Josh Ritter, playing Tanglewood on 8/19.

About two years ago, singer-songwriter Josh Ritter’s heart was broken. He and his wife of a few years decided to separate and while writing and publishing a novel, keeping up a healthy touring schedule, and releasing an EP – Josh wrote new songs to help himself understand and heal.

The songs add up to his forthcoming album The Beast in its Tracks which is available for pre-order and will be released on March 5th. In a statement on his website announcing the record, Josh wrote: "All heartbreak is awful – my broken heart wasn’t unique. But writing these songs was helping me get through the night and I didn’t have the strength to care or question."
