Annual Labor Day Rally Is Scheduled For Poughkeepsie

An annual Labor Day rally is scheduled in Dutchess County for Monday afternoon.

    We are very happy to continue our weekly feature on the RT, entitled – Ideas Matter: Checking in with the Public Humanities. It is our chance to check in with the Humanities Councils throughout our 7-State area to discuss important ideas and why they do indeed matter.

As we head into the Labor Day weekend, we take a look at the history of this holiday by talking with Jeff Urbin, Education Specialist at Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum about what Labor Day meant during the FDR administration.

Plenty On Mass. Legislature's To-Do List In Fall

Massachusetts State lawmakers will have plenty on their plates when they ramp up activity after Labor Day.

The House and Senate have not met formally since the end of July.

Among the high-profile issues the Legislature is likely to grapple with in the fall are gun control, welfare reform and proposals to increase the minimum wage.

As the Labor Day weekend approaches, businesses in the Southern Adirondacks are preparing for one last hurrah for the summer season, and a transition to lead the months ahead. 

Labor Day weekend is traditionally seen as the end to the summer season. School starts and the large crowds disappear, but while many are hoping for a strong showing on one last long weekend under the sun, some are also looking ahead to the cooler months.
