WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA playoffs, David West scored 20 points and the Pacers beat the Knicks 102-95 Sunday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Elsewhere, Oklahoma City held off Memphis 93-91. Kevin Durant scored 35 points.

In other NBA news, Miami Heat forward LeBron James is the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the second straight year and fourth time in his career. Lastly, the Brooklyn Nets general manager says P.J. Carlesimo will not return as coach. The Nets were eliminated from post season play in Game 7 of their first round series with Chicago.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

It was opening weekend in the NBA playoffs and on Saturday the Knicks beat Boston 85-78 at Madison Square Garden. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points. Game two is Tuesday night.

On Sunday, Miami opened their NBA playoff schedule with a 110-87 rout of Milwaukee. Lebron James scored 27 points on 9-of-11 shooting while contributing 10 rebounds and eight assists.

Oklahoma City clobbered Houston 120-91. Kevin Durant scored 24 points and Russell Westbrook fell two rebounds shy of a triple-double.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In baseball, Baltimore beat the Red Sox 8-5 last night. Manny Machado's three-run homer capped a five-run ninth inning for Baltimore. Boston couldn’t hold the lead on a night when their nearly 10-year and 820 game home sellout streak ended.

Elsewhere in the American League, the Yankees-Indians game in Cleveland was rained out. Toronto beat Detroit 8-6. Tampa Bay shut out Texas 2-0. Kansas City beat Minnesota 3-0. Oakland cruised ahead of the Angels 11-5 and Houston bested Seattle 8-3.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, Miami's quest to break the NBA record for consecutive wins was ended by a Chicago Bulls team that was without four key players. The final of 101-97 ended the Heat's winning streak at 27, six short of the mark set by the 1971-72 Lakers. LeBron James did his best to keep the streak going with 32 points.

J.R. Smith scored 35 points, his second straight 30-point game, and the New York Knicks withstood a furious rally to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 108-101. Carmelo Anthony added 22 points.

WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, Miami picked up their 19th straight win as Dwyane Wade scored 23 points in a wire-to-wire victory over Atlanta 98-81. LeBron James chipped in 15 points.

The winning streak ties the fifth-longest in NBA history.

Brook Lopez contributed 26 points and Brooklyn defeated New Orleans 108-98. Deron Williams had 21 points and 13 assists as the Nets won for the fourth time in five games.

In the NBA, LeBron James had 29 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists, and the Miami Heat tied a franchise record with their 14th straight victory, rallying to beat the Knicks 99-93 on Sunday.

Kobe Bryant scored 11 of his 34 points in the fourth quarter and hit the go-ahead layup with nine seconds left to give the Lakers a 99-98 win over Atlanta.

Elsewhere, Oklahoma City beat the Clippers 108-104.

Sacramento defeated Charlotte 119-83 and Indiana beat Chicago 97-92.
