Marist College Names New President

Feb 8, 2016

A law school dean has been named president of Marist College in Poughkeepsie. Loyola University Chicago School of Law Dean and Professor David Yellen will become the fourth president in Marist’s 87 years as a college. Yellen will succeed President Dennis Murray, who has held office since 1979. Murray announced last year his plan to step down from the position on June 30 after 37 years leading Marist. Yellen has written extensively on sentencing issues and served as an advisor on white collar crime to President Clinton's transition team.

There is new bus service in Dutchess County that is a partnership with two colleges.

A 16-year-old City of Poughkeepsie youth has been arrested for sending two threatening tweets to Marist College in the Town of Poughkeepsie over a seven-hour period threatening to commit an offense that created fear resulting in the college cancelling classes and telling students to stay in your dormitories.

Since I work at Marist College, and have for many years, I tend to avoid commentating on the air about Marist stuff, if for no other reason than keeping my job. And because there’s an obvious potential conflict of issue, which doesn’t always make for great journalism. So I will acknowledge that up front, lest anyone suggest I’m simply a homer or at least didn’t recognize the incestuous appearance of this piece.

Keith Strudler - 2012 In Review

Dec 26, 2012

So as years go, 2012 may not have been our finest.  But, alas, and mercifully, it is coming to a close.  Yet generally time is not the best aid to remembrance nor perspective.  And with that we look back on the year that’s nearly past, not with an acute vision on recent events but with a more reflective eye on this year’s whole body of work.  In other words, sometimes it’s hard to remember something that happened even a month ago, much less 10 or 11.
