Tourism Income Boosts Regional Economy

HUDSON VALLEY – Tourism remains big business in the Hudson Valley. An annual consultant’s report that looked at the entire state, said 81,000 people were employed in tourism jobs in the Hudson Valley last year. Tourists spent $4.75 billion last year and over $318 million in local taxes benefited municipalities in the region.

Hudson Valley tourism in the ranges from recreational to historic, and could add gaming in the future assuming casinos are legalized.

New State Tourism Initiative To Benefit Hudson Valley

POUGHKEEPSIE – The Hudson Valley/Catskills regions are expected to receive a sizable chunk of the $60 million to be divvied up around the state to promote tourism in New York.

The announcement was made this past week and Mary Kay Vrba, executive director of Dutchess County Tourism, is hopeful this area will benefit from the new funding.

Tourism Improvement In Dutchess County

HYDE PARK – Hotel and motel room tax in Dutchess County revenue rose in 2012 by four percent above 2011 and that is an indication that tourism is picking up, industry officials say.

County and local leaders, including Dutchess County Tourism Executive Director Mary Kay Vrba, marked National Tourism Rally Day at the Mid-Hudson Children’s Museum Pavilion in Poughkeepsie on Tuesday.
