Yesterday marked a sad day for both our region and Massachusetts capital city as three people perished and hundreds of others were injured in what has been described by officials as an act of terror.

Today we’re opening the lines for you to hear your stories of what many are now calling the Boston Marathon bombing, and your reactions as the investigation continues to develop. Former Sen. Brown joins board of paper company

Former U.S. Senator Scott Brown

BOSTON (AP) — Former U.S. Sen. Scott Brown has joined the board of directors of Kadant Inc., a Westford-based paper company.

Brown said he looked forward to "contributing to the future direction" of the company.

Kadant president Jonathan Painter said the company welcomed the chance to draw on Brown's "wealth of experience on local, state, national and international issues." The company describes itself as a leading supplier to the global pulp and paper industry.

Mass. gov. picks ex-aide Cowan as interim senator

BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts Gov. Deval Patrick has tapped his former chief-of-staff William "Mo" Cowan to serve as interim U.S. senator until a special election to fill the seat left vacant by Secretary of State-designate John Kerry.

Patrick says Cowan's role in helping turn around the Massachusetts economy in recent years "has earned him the respect and admiration of people throughout government." He says the state will benefit from Cowan's wisdom and good judgment.

Pilot Program Extends School Day for Some Mass. Students

School for thousands of Massachusetts public school students is about to get quite a bit longer.

Massachusetts is among five states announcing today that they'll add at least 300 hours of learning time to the calendar in some schools starting in 2013. The initiative is intended to boost student achievement and make U.S. schools more competitive on a global level. The other states are Colorado, Connecticut, New York and Tennessee.
