Nurses Union: Full-Service Hospital Viable in N. Berkshire; Poor Management Led To NARH Closure

The Massachusetts Nurses Association has released a report stating a full-service hospital in Northern Berkshire County is financially feasible, after North Adams Regional Hospital closed March 28th

The MNA says its researchers reviewed IRS and bankruptcy filings by the hospital’s parent company Northern Berkshire Healthcare over the past decade. David Schildmeier is the union’s spokesman.

MNA Continues Push For Full-Service Hospital In Northern Berkshires

A hearing continues Thursday on the bankruptcy status of Northern Berkshire Healthcare, the parent company of the shuttered North Adams Regional Hospital. About 20 former employees and members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association plan to attend the hearing in Springfield.

People Occupying North Adams Regional Hospital Trying To Prevent Closure

North Adams Regional Hospital is scheduled to close Friday, March 28.

People in North Adams are rallying at North Adams Regional Hospital trying to prevent tomorrow’s scheduled closing.

Following a meeting Wednesday night at the American Legion and a protest outside the hospital this morning, roughly 30 community members are occupying the hospital cafeteria.  David Schildmeier is with the Massachusetts Nurses Association which represents about 100 nurses at the hospital.

Mass. Hospitals, Nurses Spar Over Ballot Question

Massachusetts hospitals are facing off against the state's top nurses' union over a ballot question that would set nurse-patient ratios.

Massachusetts Hospital Association President Lynn Nicholas told the Health Care Financing Committee on Monday that patients in Massachusetts already receive among the highest quality of care in the nation and that more nurses won't guarantee improved care.
