Nurses from Berkshire Medical Center are planning an informational picket next week claiming the Pittsfield hospital is not properly staffed for a 20 percent patient increase following the closure of North Adams Regional Hospital. BMC is refuting the claims saying the increase is closer to 10 percent.

A hearing continues Thursday on the bankruptcy status of Northern Berkshire Healthcare, the parent company of the shuttered North Adams Regional Hospital. About 20 former employees and members of the Massachusetts Nurses Association plan to attend the hearing in Springfield.

People in North Adams are rallying at North Adams Regional Hospital trying to prevent tomorrow’s scheduled closing.

Following a meeting Wednesday night at the American Legion and a protest outside the hospital this morning, roughly 30 community members are occupying the hospital cafeteria.  David Schildmeier is with the Massachusetts Nurses Association which represents about 100 nurses at the hospital.
