In 2014, Republican Elise Stefanik became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. Two years later, at age 32, she is the youngest woman reelected.

Two years ago, voters in New York’s 21st district elected the youngest woman to Congress in history. It was a three-way race between neophytes.  Now the Republican incumbent is once again in a three-way race, facing one of her former opponents.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik represents the sprawling 21st House district of northern New York that includes all or part of 12 counties.  The first-term Republican faces reelection this fall and has been travelling across the more than 16,000-square mile district during the summer break.  She spoke to WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley today about a number of issues, beginning with a look at her efforts to help communities obtain federal grants.

Republican Elise Stefanik beat out two opponents in the race for New York’s 21st District, to become the youngest woman ever elected to Congress.

Third-party candidates often look to young voters to boost their campaigns.  The Green Party candidate seeking New York’s 21st district U.S. House seat held by retiring Democrat Bill Owens was on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus Wednesday evening.

The first general election debate including all three candidates in New York's 21st Congressional District was held Wednesday night and cablecast statewide. 

Democrat Aaron Woolf, a filmmaker from Elizabethtown; Republican Elise Stefanik, vice president of her family’s plywood company and former White House policy advisor,  and Green Party candidate Matt Funiciello, a breadmaker and political activist from Glens Falls, all are vying for Congressman Bill Owens' seat in the North Country after Owens retires.

Northern New York GOP Congressional candidate Elise Stefanik is scheduled to deliver the Republican response to President Obama’s weekly address this week. The address comes after recent polling showing Stefanik maintains her lead over her challengers in 21st District.

Stefanik’s campaign announced Thursday the candidate who aims to become the youngest woman elected to Congress will highlight “North Country values” in the weekly GOP radio address.

Northern York Congressional candidate Aaron Woolf, a Democrat, today called on his Republican challenger, Elise Stefanik, to fully support raising the minimum wage and to raise taxes on the wealthy — defining issues in the race for the open seat.

In his Glens Falls campaign office, 21st District Congressional candidate Aaron Woolf again called upon Republican challenger Elise Stefanik to come out fully in support of raising the minimum wage.

U.S. House Speaker John Boehner visited Glens Falls yesterday to attend a fundraiser for the Republican candidate in the race for northern New York’s 21st Congressional District. While one of the nation’s most prominent Republicans did not meet with the general public or media, some protesters hoped to catch his attention.

    The North Country is choosing a new Congressional representative now that Bill Owens is retiring.
