Humason, Bartley To Face Off For Mass. Senate Seat

Massachusetts Republican State Representative David Humason Jr. and Democratic City Councilor David Bartley of Holyoke will face off in the November 5 election to succeed longtime western Massachusetts state Senator Michael Knapik.

The Daily Hampshire Gazette reports that Bartley defeated Easthampton Mayor Michael Tautznik in Tuesday's preliminary election in the 2nd Hampden-Hampshire District. Humason defeated Michael Franco, Holyoke veterans' services officer.

Special Election Date Set As Field Of Candidates Takes Shape

A state Senate seat in western Massachusetts will become vacant at the end of today.  Republican Michael Knapik’s surprise decision to resign from the Senate after nearly 20 years opens an opportunity for Democrats to pick up a seat in the chamber where they already hold an overwhelming majority.

Republican Minority Shrinks As State Senator Departs

A 22-year veteran of the Massachusetts Legislature is stepping down to take a post in the administration at Westfield State University.  It will mean the Republican minority on Beacon Hill will become even smaller. 

   Republican State Senator Michael Knapik of Westfield is going to resign this Friday and begin work next Monday in a newly created position at Westfield State University.   Knapik said he will work closely with the university president and the Westfield State Foundation board in advancing the university’s mission.

Veteran State Senator Resigning To Take University Post

A veteran state legislator from western Massachusetts is leaving office.  Republican State Senator Michael Knapik of Westfield confirms he will resign Friday to take a new post in the administration at Westfield State University.  Knapik is in his 10th term. His departure will leave only 3 Republicans in the 40 member senate.    WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with Knapik this morning.

Hearing On State Budget To Be Held In Western Massachusetts

Massachusetts legislators will be in Greenfield   Tuesday for a hearing on Governor Patrick’s $34.8  billion dollar state budget.

Republican State Senator Michael Knapik, a member of the joint Committee on Ways and Means says he agrees with targeted spending increases for transportation infrastructure and education, but the revenues are problematic.
