WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Devils and Panthers are tied at one game a piece...

Last night in Florida, Marcel Goc netted the game-winning goal, as the Panthers skated past the Devils 4-2. The two tangle in Game 3 tomorrow. 

In Philadelphia, Danny Briere, Matt Read, and Max Talbot each scored twice, as the Flyers pasted the Penguins 8-4.  Philadelphia leads the series 3 games to none.

In Detroit, Shea Weber tallied in the first to put the Predators ahead for good, as they beat the Red Wings 3-2.  Nashville leads the series 2-1.

Well the top-seed Rangers opened their first-round series with a win…

Last night in New York, Brian Boyle's wrist shot broke the game open, as the Rangers breezed past the Senators 4-2.  Sound courtesy of the NHL.  The two tangle in Game 2 tomorrow.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the NHL playoffs are underway and Philadelphia is off to a 'Flying' start...

Last night in Pittsburgh, Jakub Voracek's tally at 2:23 of overtime completed the rally, as the Flyers stormed back from a three-goal deficit to beat the Penguins in the series opener 4-3.  Game 2 is tomorrow. 

In Nashville, Gabriel Bourque scored twice, as the Predators took their series opener from the Red Wings 3-2.  Game 2 is Friday.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Yankees and Red Sox both picked up their first wins of 2012…

Last night in Baltimore, Ivan Nova allowed two runs on ten hits over seven strong innings, as the Yankees clipped the Orioles 6-2, averting the franchise’s first 0-4 start since 1973.     

In Toronto, Ryan Sweeney singled home the go-ahead run in the ninth inning, as the Red Sox rallied to beat the Blue Jays 4-2, avoiding the first back-to-back 0-4 starts in team history.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well Bubba Watson beat Louis Oosthuizen by a stroke on the second playoff hole to win the 2012 Masters...

Trapped among the trees 155 yards from the hole and unable to see the green, Watson hit a huge hook Sunday and landed the ball safely on the 10th green. Watson two-putted for par, which was good enough when Oosthuizen bogeyed the hole. That gave Watson his first major victory.

Phil Mickelson, Peter Hanson, Lee Westwood, and Matt Kuchar finished in a four-way tie for third at 8-under. Tiger Woods finished the tournament 5-over.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the first round of the Masters is in the books...

Yesterday in Augusta, Georgia, England's Lee Westwood fired an opening round 4-under-68, and holds a one-shot lead over South Africa's Louis Oosthuizen and Sweden's Peter Hanson.  Tiger Woods opened with an even par 72.  Three-time winner Phil Mickelson is at 2-over.

Well the Spurs snapped the Celtics five game winning streak...

Last night in San Antonio, Tim Duncan netted 10 and grabbed 16 boards, as the Spurs recovered after blowing a 17-point lead to beat the Celtics 87-86.  San Antonio's won nine straight.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well as they have all season, Baylor stands atop the women's college basketball world...

Last night, the 40-0 Lady Bears finished their perfect season with a thorough 80-61 win over Notre Dame to wrap up their second NCAA title in seven seasons.  The Lady Bears' 6-foot-8 dunking center Brittney Griner, who scored a game-high 26 points, was a slam dunk for most outstanding player.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well Kentucky has won its eighth national title...

The freshman-dominated Wildcats built an 18-point lead in the first half and held off a furious Kansas rally, 67-59 to win the NCAA men's basketball title.

Sophmore Doron Lamb led Kentucky with 22 points.  For Kentucky coach John Calipari, it's his first national title in four trips to the Final Four.  For the Jayhawks, it's the sixth time they’ve finished as national title runners-ups.  Here's Kansas coach Bill Self.  All sound courtesy of the AP.

WAMC's Daily Sports Wrap

Well the Celtics cooled off the Heat...

Last night in Boston,  Rajon Rondo's triple-double helped the Celtics hand Miami its biggest loss of the season, 91-72.  Rondo finished with 16 points, 14 assists, and 11 boards for the Celtics, who've taken a one game division lead over the 76ers.
