Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy is asking residents and organizations to ring bells to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.’s "I Have a Dream" speech.

The bell-ringing is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.

Malloy said the civil rights leader's "message of freedom, equality and liberty resonates as strongly today as it did 50 years ago."

King's family has invited every state to participate in the day of remembrance by ringing bells in unison at churches, schools and other venues.
