Murder-Suicide

There was a murder-suicide Thursday in Rockland County. Police say a husband shot his wife and then himself. Ramapo police say they received a 9-1-1 call shortly after 7 Thursday morning from a man who said he just shot his wife. Police arrived at the Village of Wesley Hills residence, where the couple lived alone, and heard two gunshots. They say 65-year-old John Lord was on the rear deck and had shot himself. They found his 63-year-old wife Irene dead in the bedroom. Police say both had gunshot wounds to the head. Police say the .38 caliber revolver used was registered to Irene Lord.

Authorities say a retired Marist College psychology professor will be sentenced to five years' probation and no prison time for helping his wife kill herself with carbon monoxide in their Hudson Valley home.

East Greenbush police are investigating a double-murder suicide.

Police were dispatched to 58 Rockrose drive in the wee hours of Tuesday morning - a woman recently released from a mental institution attempted to take her own life and the lives of her two young daughters, ages 6 and 11. Responders found all three in "grave" condition - they were taken to Albany Medical Center hospital where they were pronounced dead. Autopsies have been scheduled. Time Warner Cable News reports the woman was overcome with grief after her son committed suicide in April.
