A midlevel New York court has upheld the use of a facility dog in a sexual abuse case from Dutchess County. It’s a case that inspired a state senator from Dutchess to introduce a law named after the dog.

    Terry Gipson is a Democratic member of the New York State Senate, representing the 41st district of the state.

Gipson was elected to the Senate in 2012. He is also a local business owner and homeowner in Rhinebeck, NY and he is the first Democrat elected to the seat since FDR.

NYS PSC Approves Fortis, CH Energy Merger

The New York State Public Service Commission Thursday approved a utility merger in the Hudson Valley. The $1.5 billion acquisition of the Poughkeepsie-based utility had its share of controversy in recent months.

And so went the Public Service Commission’s vote in favor of the acquisition by Canadian energy company Fortis Inc. of CH Energy Group, parent company of Central Hudson Gas and Electric Corporation. Supporters, including Barry Perry, vice president, finance and chief financial officer of Fortis, are gratified.

Two NYS Lawmakers Introduce Term-Limit Legislation

Two freshman New York lawmakers from the Hudson Valley have joined together to introduce a bipartisan bill on term limits, which they believe are key to much-needed reform in Albany.

Democratic Senator Terry Gipson and Republican Assemblyman Kieran Lalor, both from Dutchess County, joined together across party lines Thursday to say term limits are long overdue, especially with political corruption so prevalent. Here’s Gipson, of Rhinebeck.

NYS Senator Says The Need For Reform Is Urgent

A New York State senator from the Hudson Valley says he is disgusted by the latest political corruption case. His colleague, Democratic Senator John Sampson, faces several charges, including embezzlement.

Democratic Senator Terry Gipson says the Sampson case is another example of why there is an urgent need for comprehensive campaign finance and ethics reform in New York.

Sampson is the latest in a number of elected officials to be charged with political corruption this year.

Rosie's Law Would Allow Judges To Decide On Witnesses' Use Of Facility Dogs

Two New York state lawmakers from the Hudson Valley are behind legislation that would grant judges greater leeway to permit facility dogs in the courtroom in an effort to help certain witnesses through difficult testimony.

Freshman Democratic state Senator Terry Gipson is sponsoring Rosie’s Law, named for the first assistance dog allowed by a New York court to accompany a witness during testimony. In this case, Rosie accompanied a girl known as Jessica during the proceedings, in a child and sexual abuse case, in Gipson’s district. Here’s Gipson.

State Senator Defends Tweet, Calls For Death Penalty for Cop Killers

Following the Boston Marathon bombings, a New York state Senator is renewing his call for the death penalty. He also says he’s not opposed to torture, under certain circumstances, and is standing by a tweet that made national headlines.

Following the capture of Boston Marathon bomber suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, Republican state Senator from the Hudson Valley Greg Ball tweeted Friday night, quote “So, scumbag #2 in custody. Who wouldn’t use torture on this punk to save more lives?”

NYS Senator Sponsors Bill For Ethics Package

A New York State Senator from the Hudson Valley says a legislative ethics package unveiled this week by the Senate Democratic Conference includes one of his bills.

Democratic Senator Terry Gipson says the ethics package is designed to reform state government and combat ongoing corruption issues.

He says current laws regulating usage of campaign funds are lax, with little oversight.

The Senate Democratic Conference also announced support for the principles of Governor Andrew Cuomo’s proposed Public Trust Act, intended to crack down on political corruption.
