The opposition to Governor Andrew Cuomo’s New York SAFE Act continues to ramp up this week. One Central New York Assemblyman has proposed new legislation amending the law to change how ‘assault weapons’ banned by it are defined. Rockland County Legislature votes down gun control requests to state government

NEW CITY – The Rockland County Legislature Tuesday night voted on three separate resolutions pressing both federal and state lawmakers in Albany to implement additional gun control and mental health legislation, including amendments to the New York Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act.

NY handgun licensees can file privacy form

January 15, 2013, Albany - Governor Cuomo signed into law the NY SAFE Act (Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement Act) that will give New York State the toughest gun laws in the nation. The legislation includes provisions to keep guns out of the hands of convicted felons and potentially dangerous mental health patients, and ban high capacity magazines and assault weapons.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York's licensed handgun owners can keep their information private using a new form from State Police.

The forms, available online, should be submitted at county offices where pistol owners registered.

They can exempt their information from the state Freedom of Information Law, which some newspapers have used to identify owners.

President Barack Obama delivered his first State of the Union address of his second term in office Tuesday night. He saved an emotional and divisive topic for the end of his speech: gun control.


President Obama referred to Former U.S. Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords, who attended the speech, and is pushing for Congress to approve gun-control measures. She is recovering from a shooting two years ago in Tucson.

Gun Groups Prepare Lawsuit Against NYS

Four gun-rights groups have filed a Notice of Claim in New York State, challenging the gun measure Governor Andrew Cuomo signed into law earlier this month.

The New York State Rifle & Pistol Association; the Westchester County Firearms Owners Association, based in Rye Brook; the Sportsmen’s Association for Firearms Education, in Commack, Long Island; and AR15.com, a web site run out of Farmington, in upstate New York, filed a notice of claim Tuesday with the New York State Attorney General’s office.
