    For more than two decades, he was the target of intense scrutiny, with an entire unit at the CIA dedicated to tracking his every move and trying to determine what violence he might perpetrate. When 9/11 confirmed Osama bin Laden's intentions, these same analysts and operatives were now blamed for failing to prevent it, though they had spent years warning about the possibility of an attack.

Vox Pop : Osama bin Laden’s Death One Year Later with Dr. Richard Pfau : 5/2/12

It has been one year since Osama bin Laden, orchestrator of the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, was killed at the hands of U.S. Navy Seals in Pakistan.

The nighttime raid on bin Laden’s compound further strained U.S. ties with Pakistani officials, who were not made aware that a U.S. operation would be taking place in the country. Viewed as an important U.S. ally in the region, Pakistan has also been the site of what has been described as a proxy war on suspected terrorists being fought by unmanned U.S. drone aircraft.
