The North County Chamber of Commerce and two county legislatures hosted a visit by the New York state Assembly majority leader on Tuesday.  Democrat Joe Morelle was briefed on regional economic development strategies and projects and then toured the region’s transportation manufacturing facilities.

A  55-million dollar expansion and renovation at the Plattsburgh International Airport  will  more than triple the size of the existing terminal.  Airport officials today gave tours to community officials and the media, showing the progress of the expansion, which is now in Phase Two.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took a delegation of about 20 people from different economic sectors on a trade mission to Cuba this week. Among them was Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Garry Douglas. He tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley his focus was aviation and potential opportunities to open travel between the Plattsburgh International Airport and the island nation.

Clinton County legislators this week approved bids for a $36 million expansion of the Plattsburgh International Airport terminal.


Transportation Security Administration officials confiscated a loaded gun from a passenger’s carry on baggage at the Plattsburgh International Airport checkpoint.

More than six and a half million dollars in federal grants have been awarded to the airport in Plattsburgh for infrastructure improvement and expansion of the new airport terminal.
