The North Country Chamber of Commerce held its annual Business Expo this afternoon in Plattsburgh.

Last week, the Trump Administration imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum from America's closest allies in Europe, Mexico and Canada.  President Trump has said the tariffs are needed to protect national security.  But officials in northern New York say the tariffs imposed on Canada will be more detrimental to the U.S. and are likely to hurt New York state’s economy.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual Legislative Breakfast today.  It’s an opportunity for the region’s officials and business interests to hear from and question their representatives in Albany. This year, much of the focus was on the proposed state budget.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce hosted its annual State of the County, Town and City forum this morning to hear reports from municipal leaders.

Since 2010, representatives of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York have been making field trips to different regions across the state.  On Monday its president, William Dudley, met with Plattsburgh business leaders to discuss North Country economic issues.

The North American Free Trade Agreement between the U.S., Mexico and Canada has been in effect for more than two decades.  President Donald Trump has promised to renegotiate the deal.  During a business expo in Plattsburgh last week, WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley discovered that many businesses in the border region aren’t worried about the pending negotiations.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce  has signed an agreement with Quebec’s aerospace manufacturing cluster.

Despite inclement weather, nearly a hundred officials and business leaders from across the North Country gathered in Plattsburgh this morning to hear addresses on the state of the town and city of Plattsburgh and Clinton County.

New York state's 10 economic regions received more than $700 million in new economic development funding on Thursday.  The North Country is welcoming its $61.4 million dollar share that will go to 77 projects across the northern tier of the state.

The North County Chamber of Commerce and two county legislatures hosted a visit by the New York state Assembly majority leader on Tuesday.  Democrat Joe Morelle was briefed on regional economic development strategies and projects and then toured the region’s transportation manufacturing facilities.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce has analyzed the volume of traffic traversing the U.S.-Canada border at Champlain to determine whether the exchange rate is having an impact on people traveling south.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce held its annual legislative breakfast this morning.  The overriding issue capturing businesses’ attention is the governor’s proposal to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour.

A  55-million dollar expansion and renovation at the Plattsburgh International Airport  will  more than triple the size of the existing terminal.  Airport officials today gave tours to community officials and the media, showing the progress of the expansion, which is now in Phase Two.

The Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce has created a new initiative to enhance the region’s growing transportation equipment manufacturing sector.  Part of the effort included a recent tour of the facilities in Plattsburgh by Canadian transportation company officials.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo took a delegation of about 20 people from different economic sectors on a trade mission to Cuba this week. Among them was Plattsburgh North Country Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Garry Douglas. He tells WAMC’s North Country Bureau Chief Pat Bradley his focus was aviation and potential opportunities to open travel between the Plattsburgh International Airport and the island nation.
