     Voters in Massachusetts this November will not have a chance to decide if the state should adopt a so-called “millionaires tax.”    


    Massachusetts Democrats held a two-day nominating convention in Worcester over the weekend where the Republican in the White House was more the focus of attention than the Republican in the Statehouse Corner Office.

    The former campaign director for the activist organization MoveOn has become the latest candidate for the State Senate seat once held by Amherst Democrat Stan Rosenberg.

      An attorney from eastern Massachusetts, who has ties to Amherst, is going to run for the State Senate seat once held by Stan Rosenberg.

    Northampton City Council President Ryan O’Donnell has launched a campaign for Massachusetts State Senate. 

     Four people say they plan to campaign to win election to the Massachusetts Senate seat that was held for over a quarter-century by Amherst Democrat Stan Rosenberg.

     Concern there might be an uncontested race for a rare opening for a state Senate seat in western Massachusetts quickly evaporated this week.  In the wake of the resignation of Stan Rosenberg, at least four people are now running to succeed the Amherst Democrat.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is the second key European leader to visit the White House this week. President Trump is speaking at the annual Conservative Political Action Conference. His comments come amid a debate about gun laws after a shooting a high school in Parkland, Fla. National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre spoke at CPAC on Thursday, warning conservatives of a "socialist agenda" to take firearms from law-abiding citizens. Trump called the NRA and LaPierre "Great American Patriots" in a tweet Thursday morning and later said the organization "is ready to do things" to address the problem of gun violence.

     Democrats in the Massachusetts Senate moved this week to address a leadership crisis that was threatening to drown the legislative agenda in the final few months of the two-year session.


The Massachusetts House has approved a supplemental budget that includes money to reimburse cities and towns for the costs of having early voting for the first time in 2016.


    There was not much hope for bipartisan compromise on major issues going into last night’s State of The Union address by President Trump and it appears those low expectations were met. 


    The top election official in Massachusetts has scheduled the state’s 2018 primary for September 4th — the day after Labor Day.  Secretary of State William Galvin is also proposing legislation to allow five days of early voting for the primaries.
