Fresh off celebrating their 30th anniversary as one of the most beloved bands in alt-rock history, Yo La Tengo is releasing Stuff Like That There on Matador Records. The album comes out this week and the band will go on tour next month, starting September 23rd at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall.

Stuff Like That There is a conceptual sequel to YLT’s 1990 album, Fakebook. The fourteen song record features two new tunes, three re-arranged and recorded Yo La Tengo songs, and nine covers.

The trio of Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley and James McNew reunite with former member Dave Schramm on electric guitar and the album is produced by Fakebook’s producer, Gene Holder.

The Solid Sound Festival returns to MASS MoCA this weekend. The Richard Thompson Trio will play in Joe’s Field on Saturday.

Named by Rolling Stone Magazine as one of the Top 20 Guitarists of All Time, Richard Thompson is also one of the world’s most critically acclaimed and prolific songwriters. He has received Lifetime Achievement Awards for Songwriting on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2011, Thompson was the recipient of the Order of the British Empire - personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Most recently, the Americana Music Honors & Awards nominated him for “Artist of the Year”.

Yesterday his new album, Still, was released yesterday on Fantasy Records. The album was recorded in The Wilco Loft in Chicago and is produced by Wilco front-man Jeff Tweedy.

Bright As You Can, the rocking new album from The Mike + Ruthy Band, celebrates the grit and glory of kinship with 14 road-tested tunes of radio-ready acoustic pop, broody rock, country soul, and boot-stomping porch folk. As with previous Mike + Ruthy endeavors, the rootsy material covers much ground, but the through-line remains family.

In May, 2014, Mike + Ruthy decided to make a high octane record, comprised of songs they could tour with a band. Guests on the record include Ruthy’s father, Jay Ungar, Amy Helm (Levon Helm’s daughter), and ace keyboardist Marco Benevento, all adding texture, intensity, and family love.

This Saturday, The Mike + Ruthy Band will play an album release party at The Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock, NY.

Donald Fagen, co-founder of legendary rock group Steely Dan, joins us to talk about his latest solo effort Sunken Condos and about getting the absolute most of out every single composition for his fourth solo album.

Clocking in at just over 44 minutes, Sunken Condos contains nine tracks that include a wide array of instruments and clever lyrics that have critics saying Fagen has created a tightly produced album that sounds right at home among the rest of the Steely Dan catalog.
