The Preservation League of New York State has placed a controversial rail to trail project in the Adirondacks supported by the state on its list of historic properties the group says must be saved.

The Adirondack Park Agency Board of Commissioners has determined that a plan to convert part of an existing railbed to a recreational trail in the Adirondacks conforms to state land regulations.

The Adirondack Park Agency Board will decide on Thursday whether a plan to create a rail and trail corridor in the Adirondacks complies with the State Land Master Plan. The controversial issue has been debated for years.

New York conservation and transportation regulators are beginning a review of how a 119-mile long rail line through the Adirondacks can be used in the future.
