Senate Election Outcome Elevates Richard Neal To Dean Of State's Congressional Delegation

Voters in Massachusetts elected a new United States Senator this week.  Democrat Edward Markey, who spent 37 years in the U.S. House, will succeed John Kerry in the Senate.  Just 27 percent of the state’s registered voters went to the polls on Tuesday.  WAMC’s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill spoke with one of Markey’s House colleagues, Congressman Richard Neal.

Springfield Congressman Richie Neal faced off in a three-way race for the democratic nomination against former state senator Andrea Nuciforo, Jr. of Pittsfield, and Alford writer & activist Bill Shein. With all 277 precincts in the newly drawn 1st Congressional District reporting, Neal won handily with roughly 65% of the vote.
