Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal, a Democrat who represents the first district, recently spoke with WAMC's Alan Chartock as part of WAMC's Congressional Corner series. The dean of the state delegation touched on several key issues. Their conversation is excerpted below.

WAMC caught up with Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal, a Democrat. He addressed various topics, including federal gun control reforms. Neal says he supports President Obama’s call for a range of gun control measures, but says his fellow Democrats shouldn’t take an all-or-nothing stance when bargaining with Republicans.

The all Democratic Massachusetts House delegation voted for the compromise to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff.  By the very nature of compromise there were good things and bad things in the bill in the view of Massachusetts Congressman Richard Neal.  He called a  yes vote " the  responsible position".

A women’s college  in Massachusetts has received a substantial financial boost from the federal government.   It will mean an overhaul of the curriculum and new services to help ensure student’s graduate.   WAMC”s Pioneer Valley Bureau Chief Paul Tuthill reports.

With all 277 precincts in the newly drawn 1st Congressional District reporting, Neal won handily with roughly 65% of the vote.
