River Mill Senior Center brownfield redevelopment site


The ongoing redevelopment of a sprawling old mill complex in Ludlow, Massachusetts -- the largest project of its kind in New England -- will be highlighted later this year at a national conference.

 The Westmass Area Development Corporation has been selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to participate in the National Brownfields Conference in Chicago. Representatives of the private nonprofit developer will make a presentation on its work at the Ludlow Mills—the largest brownfield mills redevelopment project in New England.

Additional Massachusetts state tax credits have been awarded for the largest brownfields mill redevelopment project in New England.  The award will help advance a  project to build housing in part of a sprawling former textile mill in Ludlow.

The Massachusetts Secretary of State’s office awarded a $300,000 tax credit this month for a project to build senior housing in the former Ludlow Mills. It comes from program to promote reuse of historic buildings in Massachusetts.

US Sen. Edward Markey To Tour Western Mass. Cities

U.S. Sen. Edward Markey is planning a tour of western Massachusetts to talk with mayors, business leaders and local voters.

The Massachusetts Democrat will begin today’s visiting with Pittsfield Mayor Daniel Bianchi before talking with local business owners along North Street near city hall.

Markey then heads to Chicopee to meet with Mayor Michael Bissonette and visit the River Mill Senior Center brownfield redevelopment site. From there, Markey is planning to visit Springfield businesses and tour Union Station with Mayor Dominic Sarno.
