"Fragile Explosion: Nina Simone" is a world premiere production by Passing the Torch Through the Arts.

Nina Simone, known as The High Priestess of Soul, was a pop star and celebrity in the 1960s. Her career was up-ended because of her key role in the Civil Rights movement. “Fragile Explosion” follows Simone from her beginnings in North Carolina to international stardom, through successes and personal failures, and through her struggle with and triumph over mental illness.

Here is what happens at a Death Cafe - people, often strangers, gather to eat cake, drink tea and discuss death. It is a discussion group rather than a grief support or counseling session.

To tell us more about Death Cafes in our region – we welcome: Barbara Sarah - Founder of the Circle of Friends for the Dying which has sponsored 21 Death Cafes in Ulster County and Laurie Schwartz, a Founder of Circle of Friends for the Dying.

They've been having monthly Death Cafe gatherings in Ulster County since August, 2013 and will be hosting one at the Rosendale Café in Rosendale on Sunday, May 31st.

According to a news release from New York Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli, the former clerk of the town of Rosendale justice court stole nearly $6,000 in cash from collections without detection.

The findings were uncovered in an audit by the Comptroller’s office.

The clerk, Trudy Harper, was arrested in June and charged by Ulster County District Attorney D. Holley Carnright with third degree grand larceny, a class D felony. Harper is due back in Saugerties Town Court on Dec. 10.

First opened as a movie theater in February of 1949, the historic Rosendale Theatre in Rosendale, NY was bought by the non-profit organization, The Rosendale Theatre Collective, in August of 2013.
