Russell Westbrook poured in 41 points to take MVP honors and lead the Western Conference to a 163-158 win over the East in the NBA All-Star game at Madison Square Garden. The Oklahoma City Thunder guard fell one shy of the All-Star game record of 42 points set by Wilt Chamberlain in 1962. Westbrook broke records with 11 first-half field goals and 27 points by intermission, doing it in just 11 minutes.
There were five games in the NBA on Christmas Day and it was not pretty for New York fans.
The first game of the day had the Bulls whipping the Nets 95-78 in Brooklyn, giving Chicago its first winning streak since mid-November. Taj Gibson finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Jimmy Butler chipped in 15 points. The Bulls trailed 50-49 early in the second half before Butler hit a 3-point to spark a 21-5 run that put Chicago in control the rest of the way.
