Politicos Talk Casino Gambling in NY

A New York congressman and his potential opponent have weighed in on whether to allow casino gambling in the state. A U.S. Senator chimes in as well.

On Tuesday, New Yorkers will vote on a ballot proposition about whether to allow up to seven gambling casinos upstate. If voters give the go-ahead a few casinos could be built in the Catskills, in regions represented by Republican Congressman Chris Gibson.

Democrat Sean Eldridge, who in September formally announced a campaign for the nomination to run against Gibson in 2014, is also supportive, but with caveats.

Sean Eldridge Announces NY Congressional Run

The race is officially on for New York’s 19th congressional district. Democrat Sean Eldridge has announced a 2014 run against incumbent Republican Chris Gibson.

Eldridge’s announcement arrived via video message posted late Sunday night. His widely anticipated run comes nearly two weeks after The Chris Gibson for Congress campaign’s launch of a web video entitled “Our Best Century Yet.” Eldridge, an Ulster County resident, is the founder of Kingston-based Hudson River Ventures, a small business investment fund focused on the Hudson Valley.

GOP Starts Early Campaign Against Potential Congressional Candidate

There are new Republican websites featuring the name of a potential Democratic contender for a congressional race in New York — but that potential candidate hasn’t announced a campaign.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has launched two websites along with a paid campaign highlighting a Democrat who has not officially announced a run in the 19th congressional district 2014 race against Republican Chris Gibson. Ian Prior is a spokesman for the NRCC.
