Robin Christenson is executive director of Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar. Capital Region Sponsor-A-Scholar is the only college access and success program in the area. The program assists low-income, academically promising students to prepare for college success starting in the 10th grade.

Caring Together is an organization dedicated to providing support, education, and advocacy for women with ovarian cancer and to supporting research efforts aimed at finding an early detection test and a cure. They are best known for their monthly support group and yearly ovarian cancer run in Albany's Washington Park.

Children at the Well is a program of WithOurVoice, Inc., which also oversees the Interfaith Story Circle of the Tri-City Area, begun by Gert Johnson in 1993.

Capital Roots is a 40-year-old nonprofit organization that nourishes healthy communities with 52 Community Gardens, the Veggie Mobile, Healthy Stores, the Produce Project, Squash Hunger and more. Capital Roots is headquartered at the Urban Grow Center, a regional food hub focused on urban agriculture and produce distribution to four counties, enabling Capital Roots to triple our ability to deliver fresh food and services to underserved neighborhoods and low-income families.

Brad Shear is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, the oldest and largest animal protection organization in New York’s Capital Region.  He has worked in the animal protection field since 1996 and has been the Director of the Society since April 2007.

This morning we focus on Guilderhaven – a non-profit helping the animal community. They provide low-cost spay/neuter, food, and medical intervention for the companion animals of New York residents and for wildlife. They also assist rescue organizations in this endeavor, with an emphasis on the local community.

The Food Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition of 56 food pantries in Albany, Rensselaer, and Saratoga Counties. They provide funding, delivery, coordination of services and food drives, and education and training to their member food pantries.

Today we’ll learn about Eddy Alzheimer’s Services’ Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Initiative. The goal of which is to help relieve the physical, emotional, and financial burden of caregivers in New York state that are caring for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or Dementia.

The Capital Region Furniture Bank aims for all individuals and families to have the furniture necessary to create a safe and secure environment that contributes to their health and well being. Their mission is to recycle gently-used furniture by collecting it from the community and giving it to individuals and families moving out of homelessness and fleeing domestic violence, as well as countless others struggling to make ends meet. 

We are joined by Liz Hitt, Executive Director of the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society (HATAS), the sponsoring organization of the Capital Region Furniture Bank and by Pete Newkirk is a long-time HATAS board member and volunteer working to develop the “warehouse” which houses the Furniture Bank and the Albany Backpack Food Program.

The goal of the all-volunteer Reading Is Fun Program (RIF) in Schenectady, NY is to keep helping Schenectady's needy 4-9 year olds in pre-K, Kindergarten, and Grades 1-3, to learn reading-readiness and conversational skills and vocabulary.

Adam Chaskin is the Executive Director of the Sidney Albert Albany JCC and he joins us now to talk about Camp Courage, which is entering its second year, and is designed to help underprivileged kids from the Albany City School District fighting childhood obesity partake in the JCC’s Summer Camp activities, and also have counselling on nutrition, exercise, etc. to help build a lifetime of good habits.

This week we will feature the work of: a pilot program in North Central Troy that seeks to provide at-risk children and their parents with a support system to help in their home life and help with the transition to middle school. The FOCAS (Family Opportunity Collaborative At Sunnyside) program uses a multi-faceted approach to address the family’s academic and non-academic barriers to success, among which are food security, a peer support system and financial literacy.

Sister Betsy Van Deusen has been director of community partnerships for diocesan Catholic Charities since 2013. This year marks her 25th in religious life.
