Unlike most states, Vermont does not have an ethics commission to review any questionable acts by state leaders and employees.  There have been a number of high-level moves at the top of Vermont government that have raised some eyebrows over the past few years.  That has led to a surge in calls for the creation of such a body.  This week Governor Peter Shumlin agreed.

The search for fugitives Richard Matt and David Sweat intensified overnight as law enforcement focused on a rural area about a mile and a half from the Clinton Correctional prison in upstate New York.  The heightened activity came hours after the New York and Vermont governors announced joint endeavors to catch the duo.

Legislators were busy at the Statehouse in Montpelier Thursday.  A joint session of the House and Senate formally elected the governor in the morning and in the afternoon met again to hear the inaugural address.
