Keith Strudler: Olympic Games Are Not Quite Ready

So what if you threw a party, and no one came? Ask Vladimir Putin about that. He’s got a big old party going on right now in Sochi, a term that now invokes sentiment far beyond its Olympic ideal. In now a matter of hours, Sochi will begin its two weeks hosting the Winter Olympic Games, an event that’s been so long in the making it feels like it should already be over.

The newspaper in the center of the Adirondacks covering Saranac Lake and Lake Placid is sending two of its reporters to the Sochi Olympics.  Chris Knight talks about his trip to Russia to cover the local athletes competing in the winter games.

So there’s no shortage of exciting sports news, and definitely no shortage of controversy surrounding it. In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 13 of his 34 points in the third quarter and hit the game-clinching free throws with 2.9 seconds left in New York's 89-85 victory over Detroit. The Knicks outscored the Pistons 32-17 in the third period and handed Detroit its season-high fifth straight loss.
