Saratoga Performing Arts Center has announced the 2015 season of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

The arts and Saratoga Springs have a long history together, but talk today was all about the future. U.S. Senator Charles Schumer was in Saratoga Springs to put a spotlight on the city’s push for federal funding to develop a city-wide arts initiative.

New York State Police will have a greater presence at Saratoga Performing Arts Center after a recent sexual assault at the venue.

State police will increase security as investigations continue on a sexual assault that took place at a concert on August 12th. SPAC is located within the Saratoga Spa State Park.

    On Friday, August 15, SPAC and The Philadelphia Orchestra will present the New York premiere of composer Tan Dun’s Nu Shu: The Secret Songs of Women. A multimedia tour de force which made headlines around the globe at its China premiere this spring, Nu Shu is an exploration – through film and music -- of an ancient Chinese language secretly created by women in the remote province of Hunan, China, and passed through generations of mothers and daughters by reading, writing and singing.

Yannick Nézet-Séguin conducts the Orchestra for the performance and principal harpist Elizabeth Hainen is the featured soloist.

  SPAC’s new summer residency with The Chamber Music Society is a major milestone for both organizations. Artistic directors and husband and wife team David Finckel and Wu Han have defied the trends, growing their audience by 30 percent over the past six years even as classical audiences declined as a whole.

    On August 6th The Philadelphia Orchestra will kick off their three week summer season at The Saratoga Performing Arts Center with The Great American Songbook.

Bramwell Tovey conducts an evening of music from the Gershwins, Bernstein, and Copland with vocal selections sung by Brian Stokes Mitchell.

Saratoga Performing Arts Center recently announced that the New York City Ballet will return next year with a full, two-week residency. WAMC's Southern Adirondack Bureau Chief Lucas Willard spoke with Marcia White, SPAC  President and Executive Director, about the process of bringing the ballet back for its 50th anniversary season in 2015.

Officials from Saratoga Performing Arts Center gave a preview of the upcoming summer season this morning and provided more details about the years ahead.

At the annual meeting of voting members, SPAC’s leaders gave updates on how the performing arts organization is standing financially, introduced new and reelected board members, and also provided a glimpse of the 2014 season and beyond.

Board members were provided with SPAC’s 2013 annual report, which includes summarized financial and attendance information. Treasurer Ron Riggi said 2013 was a positive year.

The Saratoga Performing Arts Center has announced a new partnership to bring more chamber music to its summer lineup of events.

At the Spa Little theater at the Saratoga Performing Arts Center Monday, SPAC President and CEO Marcia White announced that the world-renowned Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center will make SPAC its new summer home.

"It will launch a partnership that will position SPAC as the destination of choice of world-class chamber music in the summer," said White.
